Abstract:

Objective To conduct a scoping review of telemedicine in exercise rehabilitation for patients following total knee arthroplasty, and to summarize the forms of telemedicine, intervention components, and outcome measures,in order to provide evidence for clinical practice and future research. Methods A systematic search was conducted in PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Embase,Scopus,CNKI,Wanfang,VIP and SinoMed from inception to 30 October 2025. Data were extracted from the included studies and synthesised narratively. Results A total of 21 studies were included. Telemedicine interventions involved 3 main hardware modalities, including communication devices, intelligent rehabilitation training devices, and wearable devices,as well as 3 software modalities, including mobile applications,web-based platforms, and information service systems. Intervention components included exercise monitoring and reminders, rehabilitation training assessment, health education, and remote consultation. Outcome measures comprised knee function rehabilitation indicators, psychological indicators,self-management indicators, and technology-related outcomes. Conclusion Telemedicine for patients after total knee arthroplasty remains in an exploratory stage. It has demonstrated potential benefits in promoting functional recovery, although the intervention content for exercise rehabilitation varies and the delivery formats are diverse. It is recommended that healthcare providers integrate multiple intervention approaches, enrich the content of rehabilitation programmes, and optimize outcome assessments to improve rehabilitation effectiveness and quality of life.
