Results Nursing managers had insufficient knowledge of the second victim. Participants had different opinions on whether a second victim should be responsible for adverse medical events, and whether accountability and punishment was needed. Participants admitted that the second victim was under psychological pressure, but humanistic care measures were insufficient. Conclusion Nursing managers have insufficient knowledge of the second victims, they and medical institutions should pay attention to the medical adverse events. Nursing managers should formulate corresponding preventive measures according to the causes, reduce and control the occurrence of medical adverse events, and reduce the harm to the second victims.
