A study on the perceptions and behaviors of ICU nursing staff on thirst in mechanically ventilated patients in Guizhou Province

Objective To invstigate the knowledge，attitudes and practices（KAP） of ICU nurses toward thirst in patients with mechanical ventilation in Guizhou Province，and to analyze the influencing factors. Methods The convenience sampling method was used to investigate the knowledge，attitudes and practices of ICU nurses on thirst in patients with mechanical ventilation in 67 hospitals in Guizhou Province. The questionnaire included 38 items in 3 dimensions，namely knowledge，attitudes and practices. Results A total of 392 ICU nurses were surveyed，with the total score of （85.92±13.65），knowledge dimension of（13.42±2.54），attitude dimension of（40.86±7.41） and behavior dimension of（31.65±7.30）. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that training，literature learning，hospital grade，age and gender were independent influencing factors of thirst knowledge，attitude and behavior of ICU nurses on mechanical ventilation patients（P<0.001）. Conclusion ICU staffs’ knowledge and attitude towards thirsty in patients with mechanical ventilation were positive，but practices need further improvement. To date，there is a need to strengthen the theoretical and clinical practice training of thirst related knowledge among ICU nurses，especially for those working in primary-level hospitals，to improve the internal motivation of nurses to intervene in thirst of patients with mechanical ventilation，so as to further promote the quality of clinical practice and the recovery of patients.

摘要：

目的调查贵州省ICU护理人员对机械通气患者口渴的知识、态度、行为现状，并分析其影响因素。方法采用便利抽样法，通过自行编制的“ICU护理人员对机械通气患者口渴的知识、态度、行为问卷”，对贵州省67所医院的ICU护理人员进行调查，该问卷包括知识、信念、行为3个维度，共38个条目。结果共调查392名ICU护理人员，问卷总分为（85.92±13.65）分，其中知识维度为（13.42±2.54）分，态度维度为（40.86±7.41）分，行为维度为（31.65±7.30）分。多元线性回归分析结果显示，是否接受过培训、是否学习过相关文献、医院等级、年龄、性别是ICU护理人员对机械通气患者口渴知识、态度、行为的影响因素（P<0.001）。结论 ICU护理人员对机械通气患者口渴的知识与态度较好，但行动力与执行力不足，应重点加强ICU护理人员，尤其是基层ICU护理人员对口渴相关知识的理论与实践培训，提高护理人员对机械通气患者口渴干预行为的内驱动力，进一步提升临床工作质量，促进患者康复。
