Abstract:

Objective To systematically evaluate the experience of elderly patients on coping with multiple chronic conditions(MCCs).Methods Pubmed, the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,EmBase,CNKI,Wanfang Database and VIP database were searched for qualitative research studies on experience of elderly patients with MCCs. The retrieval period was from inception to August 2021. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool for qualitative research(2016) in Australia was used to evaluate quality of the studies. A meta-synthesis method was used to integrate the results. Results A total of 15 studies were included;60 findings were extracted;10 cate-gories were summarized;3 integrated results were formed, namely changes caused by MCCs and aging, reflection and response to MCCs,adjusting to a normal life. Conclusion Aging with MCCs brings many challenges to the life of elderly patients. Health professionals should pay attention to the different coping styles of patients with MCCs,and develop feasible and support programs to help them better cope with MCCs which derived from their wisdom.
