Abstract: Objective To explore the efficacy of active heat preservation(heating blanket combined with self- heating paste) in elderly patients undergoing Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP). Methods From January to December 2017,100 elderly patients undergoing TURP were recruited and randomly divided into the experimental group (50 cases) and the control group (50 cases) using random number table method. Both groups were treated with heating blanket for active heat preservation from entering the operating room to leaving the postoperative room. Cotton blanket for passive heat preservation was applied for lower extremities during operation with lithotomy position. In addition#the experimental group used self-heating paste under the feet outside the socks for active heat preservation. Results Core body temperature decreased slightly and tended to be stable in the experimental group compared to the control group at 1h#2h#and 3h after anesthesia(P<0.05),and the incidence of hypothermia and shivering was lower in the experimental group than those in the control group(12% v.s. 54%,2% v.s. 32%，P<0.05); the thermal comfort score of the experimental group (8.44 ± 0.56) was higher than that of the control group (6.25 ± 0.78)，the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05)..Conclusion Active heat preservation (heating blanket combined with self-heating paste) can provide effective body temperature protection for elderly.
